Astral Legal have partnered with a global service company in central Manchester as they are recruiting a Legal Counsel to join their team.

The ideal Legal Counsel will handle the following:

  • Lead the commercial legal service segment with overall responsibility for delivery, quality, and continuous improvement of commercial legal support across all Commercial Contracts.
  • Act as a senior subject matter expert on all commercial contracting matters, independently resolving complex legal issues and providing strategic input on escalations from Legal team members and business leaders.
  • Manage and motivate the commercial legal team, including line management responsibility for Legal Advisors and other team members within the commercial contracts function.
  • Deliver strategic insight and regular reporting on commercial legal matters, including trends, risks, and performance metrics across supported regions, to Legal leadership and senior business stakeholders.
  • Lead on horizon scanning and commercial legal risk management, identifying developments in contract law, industry practices and relevant legislation, and guiding the business in preparing for and responding to change.
  • Manage external legal counsel, ensuring high-value and commercially aligned advice is delivered, and that external resources are used efficiently.
  • Actively contribute to Legal team leadership, taking initiative on cross-functional projects, internal legal strategy, team culture, events and knowledge-sharing.
  • Provide clear, business-aligned advice within your area of responsibility, ensuring that guidance is practical, accurate, and delivered in plain, modern language.

The ideal Legal Counsel will possess.

  • Qualified solicitor (or equivalent in a jurisdiction outside of England and Wales) with varied post-qualification experience.
  • Proven expertise in advising on, negotiating, and leading on a broad range of commercial contracts across multiple jurisdictions and services.
  • Exceptional drafting skills, with the ability to deliver contracts in plain, modern and effective language tailored to business needs
