Job Overview

A large IP Speicalist law firm are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Patent Prosecution Attorney with a strong background in Biotechnology to join a dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in patent prosecution, patentability assessments, and intellectual property (IP) strategy development, with a focus on biotechnology and life sciences.

Key Responsibilities



Patent Prosecution

  • Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications in the field of biotechnology.
  • Conduct thorough patentability assessments, prior art searches, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Prepare responses to office actions and manage communication with patent examiners to secure patent rights.
  • Collaborate with inventors and scientists to understand and protect new biotechnological innovations.


IP Strategy and Portfolio Management

  • Develop and implement comprehensive IP strategies to align with the company's business objectives.
  • Manage and maintain the company's patent portfolio, ensuring strategic and cost-effective patent coverage.
  • Advise on IP risks and opportunities, including potential licensing, partnership, and acquisition opportunities.
  • Conduct IP due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, collaborations, and other business transactions.

Qualifications



Educational Background

  • Admission to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Admission to at least one state bar.
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field


Professional Experience

  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in patent prosecution, specifically in the biotechnology sector.
  • Proven track record of drafting and prosecuting high-quality patent applications.
  • Experience with patent portfolio management and IP strategy development.
  • Strong background in biotechnology, with an understanding of molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, or related fields.
